Oleander, or Nerium oleander, is an evergreen shrub known for its abundant flowers and narrow, lance-shaped leaves. Its flowers can range from pink and red to white, cream and yellow, making it a popular ornamental plant in warm climates.
Unfortunately, beauty is doing a lot of heavy lifting here. All parts of the plant are highly toxic if eaten, due to cardiac glycosides including oleandrin. The sap can also cause skin irritation, and even smoke from burning the plant can be hazardous.
That combination of beautiful flowers and formidable toxicity earns Oleander a particularly secure position in the Cabinet.
This miniature specimen is entirely handmade from polymer clay, capturing the delicate flowers and foliage of Oleander without using any real poisonous plant material.
