Autumn Crocus, or Colchicum autumnale, is a European flowering plant with delicate pale purple flowers that appear in autumn. It is also known as Meadow Saffron, although it is not a true crocus.
Its unusual growth cycle is part of its charm. The flowers emerge before the leaves, giving rise to its rather peculiar common name, "naked ladies." The plant contains colchicine, a potent compound that is used medicinally but is toxic when the plant is consumed.
This miniature specimen is entirely handmade from polymer clay, recreating the distinctive autumn flowers without containing any real poisonous plant material.
